Global Sound Movement, collaborates with UCLan Fashion department to compose the soundtrack  for a unique catwalk show in aid of Derian House.

GSM members Ed Leigh and George Evans rise to a task recently set by UCLan Fashion and Derian House.

Derian House, a Lancashire based charity, and students from the multi-award winning BA Fashion course at UCLan worked together on a money raising event. The funds are to help families who have a child with a life shortening condition through family  support services  and end of life care, either at home, or in Derian House.

To aid the fund raising GSM offered to create a soundtrack to accompany the two catwalk shows.

The first catwalk show illustrated four fabulous collections from Frankie Puller, Amy Morris, Beth McLaren and Amy McCarthy some of UCLan’s finest designers graduating this year.

The second show ‘The Main Event’ showcased a collection based on recycled outfits specifically designed using garments donated to the charity. Designers Rita Kerekes, Lyndsey Graham, Emma Brady, Carol Hattersley, Diane Murphy, Kim Sweeney, Megan Kelly and Sarah Ashton from partnering institutes worked with UCLan designers to complete their designs.

Both shows presented quite a challenge musically as the themes of the catwalks were very different from each other.

Ed and George experienced in composing for these types of events took to the music studio and incorporated our samples from Uganda, Cyprus, Bali and newly visited destinations such as China and Gibraltar. You might be able to pick out the environmental recordings and samples that have made up a totally unique nine track album. The results ensured that the Miss England Team would glide down the catwalk when modelling the garments for the Derian House Charity.
