During my time with Global Sound Movement, I was involved in the trips to Uganda, Cyprus and the post-production stages for the trip to Bali. Being involved with this research project allowed me to develop my skills within recording, editing and deploying audio in a completely unique and interesting environment. As as students, I was exposed to both sides of the production process. From pre-production and preparation, to the collecting and collating of audio materials, both musical and environmental, to editing and creating digital representations of bespoke and sonically unique musical instruments.
The project opened me up to a variety of different cultures, traditions and musical experiences. Since working on the project, I have an increasing appreciation for traditional world music and location based environmental recordings. Working on the Global Sound Movement project fueled my increasing interest in the synthesis of technology and music, and was a great experience to help inform my own passions, and develop my skillset.
